A RIGHT ROYAL RALLY CHARGE FOR YORKSHIRE DUO ON PERELLI CHALLENGE RALLY

 

The very special couple Damien Smith and Frazer Hutchinson are competing in the support series to the Dulux Trade MSA British Rally Championship the BRC Challenge in their Sykespeed prepared Mccrash Motorsport Media backed Skipton Ford Fiesta ST.

Damien Smith from Silsden, took a podium position on the his last outing on the Bulldog Challenge Rally back in March and he also finished 2nd in the Fiesta SportChallenge. Damien now holds 4th overall in the BRC Challange and he’s biting at the heels of Andrew Wheatley and Philip Scholes with Matt Edwards just a further 6 points up the road.

“Sykespeed have prepared a cracking car again for the Pirelli and it feels great” Damien explained “We are looking to repeat what we did last year and that is winning the Fiesta Sport Challenge on the Pirelli.  Our DNF on the first round was a disaster but the second place on the Bulldog Challenge rally has really given us a platform to kick start the season. The Pirelli is definitely one of my favourite events and I will be looking forward to battling with the rest of the Fiesta competitors”

The Pro-Clean sponsored Ford Fiesta will be reunited with co-driver Frazer Hutchinson from Keighley. Frazer missed the Bulldog Challenge rally due to other commitments and he’s relishing the opportunity of taking the battle to the other crews through the fast and flowing stages of Kielder Forest. “I'm looking forward to being back in the Co-Drivers seat after missing the Bulldog, we are hoping for a great result like last years win on the Pirelli” said Frazer “ The stages in Kielder are fast and flowing, so we’re looking for some good fast times”

Damien and Frazer are amongst the 24 crews who will head out from the rally’s Carlisle Racecourse base for the official start at Kielder Water’s Tower Knowe visitor centre before the rally starts in earnest on Saturday morning. The Pirelli Challenge Rally is the second gravel round of the season and the rally comprises six forest stages split by the only service of the day back in Carlisle, making this a demanding event.
